Hello and welcome to A Cap and Leo Travel! We are happy you found our little space on the web and hope that we can help you in future travels.
We’re Sarah and Amber, the faces behind A Cap and Leo Travel. We have two big passions – we love to eat good food and travel the world! We started this blog to share our favorite food and travel experiences. Our travel style is a mix of going off-the-beaten-path to lesser-visited areas of the world as well as using the popular cities as great starting points. When it comes to food, we want it to taste good – why eat it otherwise? We are constantly researching the local guides to see what everyone is talking about. We want to try and understand the people and the culture of the places we are visiting.
About Sarah and Amber
The first major trip we took together was to the Netherlands and France in the summer of 2017. We went with a group as a part of a coaching gig we were doing at the time. It’s not the travel that we currently do or prefer to do but it sparked something in us to want to get out there and see the world more. At the time we needed that first push to take off from.
We live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro which allows us to be within 4 hours of all continental US air travel and within 8 hours to Western Europe. Minneapolis has a thriving food scene that we enjoy
Our top three favorite places to visit:
- Pacific Coast of Costa Rica
- Maine Coast in the fall
- The Netherlands

Our Travel Style
We like to advocate for slow and easy travel that is budget friendly. We have found that we are drawn to water so most of the places that we have been to have a water element to them. There is nothing like sitting on a beach listening to the waves and wind putting you into a meditative state, promoting mental clarity and emotional balance. We try to take our time and spend more days than most in the places we visit. We like to ensure that we can fully appreciate a destination, and we don’t think we can do that if we only have a short period of time there.
We tend to travel on a fairly small budget. We like to stay in an affordable local/boutique hotel or rentals with good reviews vs venturing to the big-name hotels. We typically cook one meal a day if we have access to a kitchen. Cooking a meal a day or packing a lunch saves on our budget to do other fun things. Don’t let it fool you though, we don’t necessarily shy away from splurging on a good meal! The best part of traveling in our minds can be the food that you get to experience.
When public transportation is available, we like to use it as much as possible, especially when we are in the city. We have also been known to be those travelers who walk everywhere – it’s just a simple five-minute walk right? We rent a car when we know we will be traveling around an area where public transportation is not available, and we want the freedom to see more.
We are also a queer female couple, so we are very mindful of where we travel to. Will it be safe for us to go there? Can we walk around at night? Are we accepted? All things that we take into consideration when we make plans.
